The Lost Image (2021)
... is a collaborative project with Karl Wratschko, first showcased at the Rotlicht Festival in Vienna under the theme "Hybrid."
Analog slides and film have nearly vanished from contemporary use. What we often find are projectors—once essential devices now largely abandoned, their original purpose lost along with the images they once cast onto walls and screens. This project utilizes these forgotten projectors (35mm slides along with 8mm and 16mm films) to create experiences that are both aesthetic and existential. The aesthetics are influenced by and evoke the essence of Russian Suprematism, with simple shapes dominating the installation. The switching process of slide projectors and the flicker of movie projectors provide a final remnant of life. Has time run out, or does it persist in these machines and their projections?
This installation prompts viewers to reflect on the impermanence of media and the endurance of art, making a poignant statement about time, memory, and technological evolution.
