3D MicroScan - The Big-Bug Immersion (2022 ongoing)

As part of my doctoral studies in technology at the Science Visualization Lab (Department for Digital Art), I am currently developing an ultra-high-resolution 3D scanner for objects ranging in size from approximately 2mm to 50mm. This scanner will enable the creation of highly detailed 3D models with equally detailed textures in true-to-life colors.

In addition, innovative AI methods such as NVIDIA's NeRF are being tested and evaluated. These approaches allow for the conversion of transparent surfaces, such as wings or metallic beetle surfaces, into 3D models.

You can watch a short video about "Iteration 3" of the scanner acting as a performance artist here: https://youtu.be/MI1tHzabKak

Here you can manipulate the lighting direction on a scanned fly in real time by clicking and dragging.

Updates and images will follow as the project progresses.
